DISKORDIA 021

Diskordia in the service of hardworking women again: I present to you a local artist, recently got my attention, but has obviously been working hard for some time now. She performs as Klara, wandering around clubs and studios, recently announced that she finalized her first studio, to completely dedicate to the musical endeavors she has started. Some of it is her own solo work, some of it is in a colab with another recent acquisition on the Macedonian electronic music scene - Defect 13. Klara can also be heard perform as a dj!

Tune in DISKORDIA to catch some early plays of the music, soon to be released.

Klara can be found here: https://www.mixcloud.com/Klara_Melody/

DISKORDIA 020

This week's Diskordia is to compensate for the technical difficulties from last week and spend quality 60mins with the ingenious diletante that is Gudrun Gut. From her formation years as an artist in the late 70s, she seems like an irresistable part of the art scenes she is working within. A motor to many successful and prominent art collectives, she has been creatively present in Einstürzende Neubauten, Malaria! and others. My favorite piece from her more recent history is her colab with AGF on the project Baustelle.

Tonight we listen to some of her collaborative pieces with artist Myra Davies and some not incidentally selected Erase Errata tracks.

DISKORDIA 019

Fresh from last month - Mykki Blanco's newest album "MYKKI" in tonight's DIskordia. Fresh sounds from my generation's Yoko Ono, some heavy beats, some over-the-top lyrics and some cultural re-appropriations right there in this half an hour of an album. The Mykki Blanco persona is so sensitive, serious and most of all, free. Thats why we dip into some older tracks too, also featuring Princess Nokia whose "Young girls" is an irresistible part of most of my radio shows.

DISKORDIA 017

Flying Lotus has been present in my playlists for a while now, but I never picked up on any of the artists around him. Kamasi Washington is already very well recognized and has made it on air on my other radio shows, but mr Stephen Bruner is fresh new around here. Although active for 15 years now, with a wide variety of talents and collaboration, we sail into his works with his most recent release - The Beyond/Where the Giants Roam, released for Fly-Lo's Brainfeeder under his Thundercat alias. So obvious why they jam along with Flying Lotus, I enjoy this music a lot.

Also listening to Warpaint today: the ultimate girl-on-the-edge-of-main-stream-and-avantgarde listen these days. They released their new Heads Up album this summer on Rough Trade and it's working for me on so many levels - with the sensibility Janet Jackson meets Cocteau Twins and much better rhythms than most of the their music before. So soft and with a dark twist, if I may.

DISKORDIA 016

We begin a series of mixes/mixtapes by guests I invite from time to time to Diskordia.
They are all deeply moved by music and bear a very special understanding and appreciation for it, so having them present on my music stream is a true pleasure.

A few words about the music today:
"So, here's the mix. I named it Cosmovisión. It starts and ends with a field recording of some shamanic ritual performed by Brazilian indians. In between, there's this new wave of Latin American producers. The vibe's more or less like a flying saucer ride along the banks of the Amazon river. I hope you enjoy it."

DISKORDIA MIX 001 per my request is by Rodrigo Miravalles or SUVO OKOan initiative to promote Brazilian music and tell stories from Brasil, but not the usual stuff. Made in Skopje, Macedonia. You can listen to more stuff by Suvo oko here.

DISKORDIA 015

Diskordia from 05/09/2016 - check your girls!
We take a listen to some less and more recent material from girls that make music, sing, dance and do their own thing. Tommy Genesis, Abra, Adda Kaleh, Lafawndah and others.

I like their creative struggle against conformity, standards of beauty, expectations and I wish we heard more of this music on gigs. Like some of those awesome Azealia Banks house pieces or the wicked Zebra Katz not-so-straight-forward for-floor tunes.

Dip into the week with the girls from Diskordia.

DISKORDIA 014

Aaaand we're back. Holidays are over, although they never are for us the free souls. We work all the time and we holiday all the time.

For our good times during the last of the summer dayz, I strongly recommend "and the Anonymous Nobody" by De La Soul - it is so good! I like that they are so good, but they don't take themselves so seriously, they take us back and forth in time and music and the stuff on the album is ridiculously flawless. Maybe we could here some more stuff from the hours and hours of live sessions that De La Soul covered for via crowd-funding some time in the future, cuz this sounds great.

On this album we've got them classic De La Soul, with some Stevie Wonder-invoking Usher (that I would immediately get rid of), some Snoop Dogg and insightful lucidity by David Byrne sounding like the Everything that happens will happen today period.

So, let's start the season playfully.

DISKORDIA 013

When I first heard Edward Snowden speak in an interview, I immediately thought of Terence Mckenna. It's not only the color of the voice and the somewhat characteristic pronunciation, but it's about the general wholistic approach and understanding of the big picture and life, people, the world, and the topic of their specific interests, respectively. It all works well for an audio experience, there is something very soothing to the voice of Mckenna and Astralwerks knew how to play with it well.

Today we stumble onto Matthew Collings and listen to his Requiem for Edward Snowden >> Originally, a complex audio/visual piece including electronic sound, acoustic instrumentation and live, interactive visuals. It was mostly performed last year, I guess it has been released as an audio material, now coming up on diskordia.

Just for the heart, we also play Re-evolution.

DISKORDIA 012

~I'm not a woman
~I'm not a man
~I am something that you'll never understand

We say goodbye to yet another star specific to a certain era. All there is left is Madonna.

Prince was a proliferating artist till the last breath, and the only one I had followed whatever he might release or do/perform. Remember how the world fell apart over Bowie and his identity transgressions that meant so much to so many...? Apply that to a male person of color and talk about gender fluidity in the 70s and you get our pioneer. The perfect musician, always over the top and gallant at the same time.

I am forever in love with any of his phases and incarnations - even the odd ones with not such good music. Cuz I knew he'd get out of it into something new.

Today we listen to a selection of Prince music, my most played tracks these days after his death.

Long live the Prince.

DISKORDIA 011

A long-lasting, but recently discovered collaboration between Blixa Bargeld and Teho Teardo (+Balanescu Quartet) has been keeping me content.
Wonderful lyrical soundscapes accompanied by poetic, but not naive lyrics, on top of a very dark, but whimsical creation.
Blixa Bargeld keeps a level of humor, or at least doesn't take himself so seriously and Teho Teardo keeps it on the edge of avantguarde and classical.

Oh, and whats with the "dada gone dunce gone pet shop boys" cover?

While we wait for their latest release "Nerissimo", we listen to "Still Smiling" from 2013.
